Our client Thieme Compliance, provider of the E-ConsentPro product for digital consent forms, is typically embedded in the hospital landscape with a hospital information system (HIS). This means that the essential use cases cannot be demonstrated without a connection to an HIS (or simulation thereof). In order to present a comprehensible showcase at trade fairs such as DMEA, it was necessary to develop a HIS simulator called “KISme.” The goal was to offer potential customers a comprehensive showcase that maps the import and export of patient data into E-ConsentPro using both URL and HL7 ADT. This required the development of both a front end and a back end, with the successful implementation of the HL7 messaging standard being a particular highlight. These are used to send and receive standardized information in the medical environment.
A key challenge was the integration and handling of the HL7 standard. To this end, the HAPI HL7 Library was installed and the message types specified in the requirements were implemented in order to process the required message types in accordance with international standards.
Various functions had to be implemented to enable messages to be sent and received correctly.

The developed KISme opens up completely new possibilities for presenting the use case vividly at trade fairs. Potential customers have the unique opportunity to test the E-ConsentPro product in a realistic environment. The seamless integration of patient data into the ECP and the smooth connection to a HIS offer added value for presentation purposes at trade fairs.
