SeSo, a comprehensive web portal from a medical device manufacturer, is revolutionizing the technical monitoring of medical devices by centralizing all relevant information on a single platform. This enables real-time analysis and visualization of system architecture, log errors, and component status, allowing maintenance work to be prepared efficiently and in a targeted manner. The latest modernization of SeSo focused on redesigning the front end with Angular, optimizing backend queries and database maintenance, and revising and automating the testing process. Outstanding measures included upgrading to Angular version 16 and implementing new security features. These improvements significantly increase the maintainability and security of the system and enable maintenance personnel to quickly obtain the information necessary for efficient maintenance work.

Performance and security
- Acceleration of pattern match queries by limiting them to 14 days.
- Addition of new security headers to current requests.
- Correction of internal server errors and improvement of error descriptions.
Integration and optimization
- Link to Application Insights for improved monitoring and error analysis.
- Restructuring of SRS Connectivity and display of a broken cable icon when necessary.
Automation and Data Management
- Creation of a test data generator concept and its implementation.
- Introduction of a SeSo-supported lock for the web application and automation of time-dependent tasks.
- Provision of a web API for deleting specified test systems.

Testing

Framework and structure
- Conversion from the Puppeteer test framework to Playwright for more efficient test execution.
- Restructuring of test cases and creation of a comprehensive test concept.
Execution and maintenance
- Creation and execution of specific test cases, maintenance of the test plan.
Code freeze activities
- Clarification of all trace reports for the EU SeSo team, execution of production tests and sanity tests.
- Manual review of test pipelines to ensure software quality prior to rollout.

Special challenge

During the modernization of the SeSo Health Status web app, we encountered exciting tasks that took us all out of our comfort zone. Even the most experienced teams encounter challenges when dealing with new technologies and development environments. Configuring a main application, improving historically grown source code, and ensuring code quality are just a few examples. Added to this are full databases that require careful recovery and the need for effective team communication.

The lack of system requirements and the constantly changing states of the test systems demand flexibility and adaptability on our part. In addition, maintaining the test case pipeline requires continuous commitment and expertise. For us, taking on these challenges means staying up to date and expanding our skills.
